Abu Dhabi: Seven new pedestrian bridges have been opened in the capital by the Abu Dhabi Services Company (Musanada).
The new facilities aim to provide safe passageways for pedestrians, and avoid pedestrian related accidents.
The pedestrian bridges have state-of-the-art standards, use energy-saving light bulbs. They have a ventilation system inside the passageways, and have electric lifts for special needs people as well as senior citizens.
Omar Mattar Al Mansouri, Acting Director of Roads Department at Musanada, speaking at the opening of the bridges said, “Abu Dhabi General Services Company is keen on upgrading infrastructure services in the city of Abu Dhabi through the implementation of an internationally unique model, which has been strategically studied by renowned companies, in order to ensure maximum safety and comfort for its users.”
“All footbridges are equipped with electric elevators and energy-efficient lights. We also improves the surrounding areas of these footbridges to ensure the users easy and safe access to the bridges and to encourage travel on foot,” he added.
The new footbridges are located near busy road crossings and bus and taxi stations, to make it more convenient and safe for pedestrians. The height of the footbridges has been increased by 1.5 metres, with each facility reaching a height of 6.5 metres now.
The architecture and colour of the footbridges reflect the culture and identity of Abu Dhabi, and fits with the environment.
The overall project plan was outlined by the Safety and Traffic Solutions Committee [STSC] after listening to the requirements of pedestrians. The Safety and Traffic Solutions have been encouraging the public to walk to nearby locations, with benefits to people’s health, and the environment.
